Project Summary, Objectives and Results

Project Summary

The Uzbek Government has launched a reform of the Vocational Education and Training system in order to make the system more responsive to labour market needs and, by this, contribute to a better socio-economic development in Uzbekistan. Although overall unemployment figures are still high in Uzbekistan, there is an increasing demand for well qualified employees in the country, particularly in the area of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

Project Objectives

The overall aim is to improve the employability of graduates from vocational colleges (VC) spe-cialised in ICT, whereas the project’s objective is to support the development and implementation of efficient, labour market orientated ICT training programmes at selected vocational colleges.

The Project is focusing on three main results:

• Provision of adequately equipped laboratories and workshops at selected VCs that are used to their full capacity (the procurement budget is 7.4 MEUR, i. e about 8.96 million USD),
• Increase in the number of qualified and motivated teaching personnel, and
• Approved occupational standards, examination and teaching materials.

– Establishment of the Project Implementation Unit
– Evaluation of vocational colleges (VC) and final selection of beneficiary VCs
– Specification of equipment to be procured for the beneficiary VCs
– Tendering, procurement and acceptance of equipment

Project Results

– Occupational standards for technical training in ICT are introduced
– Foundation of examination boards for the included vocational colleges, each board comprising a representative of the economy
– 84% of the graduates / participants are employed according to their respective qualification
– About 33.000 units of teaching material (books) are printed (topics: IT, Programming, Marketing, Accounting, Management, Economics)
