Project Summary, Objectives and Results

Project Summary

Implementation of the project was started in December 2013. Within the framework of the project the master study programme in food quality and safety will be developed and implemented in Tajikistan. The project involves universities from Tajikistan, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia, and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Tajikistan. The Lead partner of the project is Latvia Agriculture University. The project is funded from EU TEMPUS programme for the development of the higher education in the partner countries from Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Western Balkan and Mediterranean regions.

The overall objective – to support modernization of higher education in the area of food quality and safety in Tajikistan.

  • To promote the reform and modernization of higher education in Tajikistan in the area of food quality and safety.
  • To enhance the quality and relevance of higher education in the area of food quality and safety in Tajikistan.
  • To build up the capacity of higher education institutions in Tajikistan.
  • To enhance networking among higher education institutions across Tajikistan and EU Member States.

Activities

The project is consisted of 6 work packages:

WP1 Development of the master study programme “Food Quality and Safety”:

  • Assessment of the status quo in the area of food quality and safety (in TJ)
  • Elaboration of the plan (proposed content, methodology, procedures) for development the Master study program (MSP)
  • Workshop – analysis of the plan and agreeing on content of the MSP and methodology (in LV)
  • Elaboration of the MSP content, methodology and procedures
  • Workshop – agreeing on the final edition of the MSP (in SK)
  • Elaboration of study materials
  • Workshop – presentation of the MSP to Ministry of Education of Tajikistan and other stakeholders (in TJ)
  • Submission of the MSP to Ministry of Education of Tajikistan for licensing, and its licensing

 

WP2 Elaboration and introduction of the Master study programme quality assessment and assurance plan:

  • Workshop – defining of quality assessment and assurance “frame” (in LT)
  • Elaboration of the MSP quality assessment and assurance plan (QAAP)
  • Presentation of the QAAP to Ministry of Education of Tajikistan and other stakeholders
  • Integration of suggestions in the QAAP
  • Approval of the final edition of the QAAP
  • The MSP quality assessment and elaboration of the report on findings
  • Updating of the QAAP based on conclusions and suggestions of stakeholders

 

WP3 Dissemination and promotion of the MSP and the project among stakeholders:

  • Elaboration of audio-visual material (CD) about the MSP
  • Dissemination of audio-visual material (CD) to stakeholders
  • Development of TV and radio broadcasts and their broadcasting
  • Publications in national and regional newspapers
  • 4 regional seminars for existing and potential stakeholders (in TJ)
  • Development of the project website and its regular updating

 

WP4 Increase of capacity of higher education institutions:

  • Study visits of Tajikistan universities’ teaching staff to partner countries
  • Training of universities teaching staff in study course subjects
  • Assisting of universities teaching staff in implementation of the MSP
  • Training of universities teaching staff in English
  • Acquisition of equipment

 

WP5 Pilot training of students:

  • Selection of students
  • Pilot course – 1st study semester (20 credit points)
  • Evaluation of each study subject and module
  • Pilot course – 2nd study semester (20 credit points)

Project Results
  • The Master study programme (MSP) and study materials developed.

  • 34 publicity measures taken.
  • At least 200 000 stakeholders addressed.
  • 12 persons – universities teaching staff trained.
  • 70 units of equipment for teachers and for study process acquired.
  • 3 study visits, 7 days each held, 12 teachers participated.
  • 15 students matriculated.
  • 3 study semesters/1200 hours of studies provided.
  • Mobility in Latvia organised.
