Project Summary, Objectives and Results

Project Summary

With development of the first National Human Development Report in 1995, human development itself, and this concept as ‘an alternative’ way to plan and prioritize development, became increasingly prominent in Kazakhstan. However, the human development in Kazakhstan continues to be a major national problem. In this regard, it is very important to instruct how to solve the challenges of human development and to promote the concept of human development, its methods and applications among the best prepared and motivated group of future economists, researchers, public and business administrators.

Project Objectives

• Introduce the Human Development Course for Kazakhstani universities students and teachers for further evolution and expansion of the HD concept;
• Build national capacities through development of knowledge and skills in design and implementation of human-centred public policy at different levels;
• Promote the Human Development concept through establishment of the first Human Development training centre in Kazakhstan.

Related Projects

• The Human Development Course is approved by Ministry of Education and Science of the RK as an elective course for humanitarian and socio-economic majors;
• The Human Development Course developed and introduced at 5 Kazakhstani universities;
• Annual trainings for faculty members from 37 universities are organized with participation of international and local experts, researchers, representative of governmental and non-governmental organizations;
• Workshop for university top management (rectors and vice-rectors) is organized for further dissemination of the course;
• Human Development textbook both in Kazakh and Russian languages in hard copy and electronic version on CD as well as methodological materials have been developed, produced and distributed among public and university libraries.

Project Results

• Design and launch a Human Development web page;
• Develop and produce in hard copy and electronic version a Human Development Reader and Test manual.
