Project Summary, Objectives and Results

Project Summary

Under the project, the Association of Professional Social Workers of Tajikistan plans to work with the faculty and students as well as improve its relations with the social service providers at the local level. Two textbooks will be developed and published in Tajik, involving faculty of the Sociology and Social Work chairs. During the first year, professors and students studying social work will be trained by the graduates of the OSI-AF scholarship program on social work. By the end of the project these professors and students will be able to conduct surveys and develop project proposals as well as develop their knowledge of social problems in Tajikistan and thereby improve their analytical skills.

To facilitate the development of professional social workers through improvements in the quality and applicability of education in the field of social work in Tajikistan.

Project: Assistance to the Department of Sociology, major in “Social Worker” (March-December 2010)

  • By the end of the project, all students and teachers of the Department of Social Work at TNU will receive educational materials in Tajik, and at least twenty students and two teachers will present their projects for a survey of graduate scholarship to be conducted by the OSI-AF program in social work.
  • By June 2013, twenty researchers, policy makers and professors from TNU will increase their knowledge of the analysis of social policy and 75 social workers will gain knowledge in the ethics of social work.
Project Results
  • Two books will be prepared in the Tajik language: Survey of Methodology for Social Workers and Development of Curriculum for Social Programs. These books will be published in 400 copies and disseminated among students studying social work and professors of the Chair of Social Work at TNU.
  • Twenty students and two professors will be trained in survey methodologies and project development.
  • At least three surveys will be conducted and three articles will be published in scientific magazines of Tajikistan.
