Project Summary, Objectives and Results

Project Summary

The Bologna process and EHEA brought necessary reforms to improve engineering education in Russia and Tajikistan. But despite obvious increase in attractiveness for young people engineering education is still facing many challenges, such as significant drop-out rate among students, decreased employment rates for bachelor graduates, ageing of teaching staff. One of the major unsolved problems behind these challenges is the deterioration of teacher training system in partner countries’ universities and irrelevance of teaching methods employed for engineering disciplines in Russia and Tajikistan. The answer to this problem is two-fold – modernization of pedagogic training of PhD students and development of sustainable system of lifelong education for university teachers of engineering disciplines.

Main objective: to enhance the quality and the effectiveness of teaching by promoting a change in a system of pedagogic training of university teachers in engineering in Russian Federation and Tajikistan through modernization of PhD programs curriculum and development of sustainable system of teacher re-training and consultation support by Network of Centres of Excellence in Engineering Education.

Project Objectives
  • To develop a comprehensive model and descriptor of the competences of the university teacher of engineering disciplines.
  • To establish a Network of centres of Excellence in Engineering Education (EXTEND) centres offering training courses, research and consultations in teaching engineering disciplines in partner countries’ HEIs.
  • To develop a training program for PhD students and teachers in teaching engineering disciplines.

Activities
  • Monitoring of Russian and Tajikistan practices in teacher training and competence enhancement (with focus on teaching engineering disciplines) and practices in teaching engineering disciplines.
  • Studying of the best European practices in teaching engineering disciplines and teacher competence enhancement.
  • Developing a model and professional competences descriptor of university teacher of engineering disciplines.
  • Developing and setting-up of EXTEND centres including development of documentation, intake and training of staff for the centres. People, knowledge and facilities are connected within the centres, allowing for the creation of new connections and solutions; 5) to train PC universities teachers in European experience in teaching of engineering disciplines.
  • Developing and piloting of curriculum and methodology of pedagogical training of PhD students and curriculum and methodology of training program for teachers of engineering disciplines.
  • Preparing and publishing a course book with teaching methodologies of engineering disciplines.
  • Organising a study visit to implement project-based teaching/learning.
