Project Summary, Objectives and Results

Project Summary

Quality of higher education (HE) is the basic priority of HE development during last decades in many countries of the world. In Europe, the Bologna process (BP) has declared the quality of HE as one of the major priorities. In CA region the quality assurance (QA) systems and mechanisms are the national priorities while the BP type reforms constitute one of the regional priorities.

The project is focused on enhancing capacities in implementation of Bologna process reforms at institutional level at higher education institutions in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, with the emphasis on internal quality assurance and institutional typology.

Project Objectives
  • To map the current situation of quality assurance at individual partner HEIs as well as national level.
  • To identify the principles/recommendation of the Bologna process relevant for HEIs in partner countries.
  • To develop interactive training sessions.
  • To transfer know-how and good practices.
  • To share experience between European and partner countries HEIs.

Activities
  1. Management, Quality Assurance and Dissemination

Focused on effectively managing the project in terms of budget and timely execution of all project activities. It also ensures the high-quality outputs of the action by means of an external and internal quality control; and fosters the wider dissemination of the project results.

  1. Analysis

Activity aims at the mapping the present context in the field of Quality Assurance in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan at national and institutional levels. It is focused on having an in-depth insight of the situation of the KZ/UZ Quality Assurance in HEIs, but also their knowledge and practice in terms of Quality Assurance. This activity is a starting point for the capacity building activities.

  1. Capacity building

This activity is a core part of the project in which the trainings will be implemented. The aim is to provide Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan with knowledge they need to define their Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS). This activity comprises following work packages:

  • WP 2 – focusing on finding the extent to which the acceptance of priorities and recommendations of documents have arisen from the Bologna process. For this purpose, the relevant documents at national (regional) and institutional level will be analysed and complementary data collected by means of questionnaires for participating HEIs from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
  • WP 3 – devoted to the definition and implementation of training courses followed by 2 workshops (including practical training at selected HEIs) in Czech Republic on quality assurance at HE. It will also provide the team members of participating HEIs from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan with necessary information.
  • WP 4 – pilot implementation of the first drafts of quality assurance systems in all participating HEIs from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Project Results
  • 6 internal Quality Assurance systems developed.
  • Freely available 6 self-evaluation reports and Final Synthesis Report (complemented with descriptive studies, training/teaching materials, analytical case, national and comparative studies) developed.
  • Project results through the project website, Facebook, leaflets, Final Synthesis Report and two conferences disseminated.
