Project Summary, Objectives and Results

Project Summary

The project aimed to achieve sustainable human livelihoods by introducing innovative and sustainable approaches for improved life conditions of smallholder farmers through identification and sharing of best practices. The project had three main components:

  1. Capacity building of smallholder farmers, private sectors, research/academic institutions and civil society organisations to increase productivity, promote sustainable development, built local capacity for technology, agricultural research and sustainable development;
  2. Capacity building of policy makers/governmental institutions to provide necessary public goods and services, by combating institutional barriers and low public good provisions;
  3. Networking/communication and interactions among all stakeholders of the process, by establishing a dialog platform and activate constructive interactions and exchange including international participation and cooperation.
Project Objectives

The overall objective is to achieve sustainable human livelihoods by introducing an innovative and sustainable approach for the life of smallholder farmers through identification and sharing of best practices across countries.

Activities

I. Capacity building for smallholder farmers, private sector actors, research and academic institutions, and civil society on technology, agricultural research and sustainable development, and the enhancement of agro-climatic potential.
II. Capacity building for policy-makers and governmental institutions on the provision of necessary public goods and services, as well as how to combat institutional barriers and low public good provisions, ensure prospects for reaching the Millennium Development Goals on poverty and hunger and environmental degradation, and focus on productivity improvement with the benefit of modern science, and lessons learnt on sustainable development.
III. Ensuring networking, communication and interaction among all stakeholders of the process through the establishment of a dialog platform that can activate constructive interactions and exchange and encourage a critical mass for change in policy on sustainable development and agriculture.
IV. Holding of workshops, training and online communications and feedback forums.

Project Results

The project foresees to contribute to the strengthening of the capacity of smallholder farmers, private sector actors, research and academic institutions and civil society, to increase productivity and promote sustainable development.

It is also expected to strengthen the capacity of policy-makers and governmental institutions to provide necessary public goods and services, and encourage more networking, communication and interactions among all stakeholders of the process.
